Elderly suffer from dental diseases

1. Change in the oral mucosa

The mucosa becomes thin, smooth, dry, reduced elasticity, easy to hurt but heal.

In particular, changes in salivary glands: the aging process causes the pituitary glands to decrease, but instead the adipose tissue and connective tissue, thereby reducing salivation and causing many problems. Oral health issues such as: tooth decay, periodontitis, burning sensation, ...

Changes in teeth: teeth become dark, brittle, easy to crack.

2. Tooth decay

In older people, tooth decay is often accompanied by gum loss due to periodontal disease and dry mouth.

Causes of tooth decay: Bacteria affect food (mainly carbohydrates), creating acid destroying the structure of the tooth creating holes in the surface called cavities.

3. Periodontal disease

Periodontal disease is a major problem for the oral health of the elderly. Without proper intervention, it will lead to bone loss, ligaments around the teeth, tooth shaking, and eventually tooth loss.

Many studies have shown that periodontal disease and the severity of periodontal disease increase with age.

3. Malignant dysplasia

Varicose degeneration, osteoarthritis, and loss of permanent teeth that are not restored are common causes of sciatic and articular lesions leading to temporal dysplasia.

Symptoms: pain in the temporomandibular joint, fatigue, lower jaw movement (difficulty opening mouth), there is a call in the joint.

4. Dry your mouth

Long-term dry mouth changes salivary glands, salivary glands, and mucus, which are easy to create plaque, creating a favorable environment for bacteria causing tooth decay, gingivitis, periodontitis.

Causes: Reduced saliva secretion due to diabetes, neuritis, malignant anemia, drug due to tissue degradation, radiation from the head, face, ...

Deficiency of saliva causes hot lips, cracked tongue, dry mouth mucus, thick white and stale, making food storage, chewing difficult to swallow because saliva is necessary to smooth.
